Porcelain Veneers and Dental Bonding: Determining Which Treatment Works Best for You

If your teeth are stained, chipped, or otherwise damaged, you may consider porcelain veneers or dental bonding as treatment options. Both procedures can provide you with a beautiful smile.

At Parthenia Family Dental, we’ve encountered clients who have difficulty deciding between the two treatments. Although our staff will be more than happy to help you choose the best option for your smile, we thought it might be helpful to give you a little more information about each procedure.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells that are permanently bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth to enhance their cosmetic appearance. The shells are made to match the natural color of your teeth as closely as possible using porcelain materials.

Our dentists can use porcelain veneers to improve the appearance of your teeth if they are:

  • Discolored or stained
  • Chipped or broken
  • Worn down
  • Misaligned, misshapen, or too small
  • Gapped

Porcelain veneers are the best option if a less invasive procedure can’t treat your dental flaws. It’s also the best option if you want a more permanent solution. The veneers can last for up to 20 years with proper care.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a less invasive option than porcelain veneers. The treatment involves the use of a tooth-colored resin material that’s bonded to your teeth using a special adhesive. The resin is applied to the surface of your teeth and then hardened using a special light.

Your dentist can use dental bonding to treat the same cosmetic issues as porcelain veneers. These include chipped, discolored, gapped, and cracked teeth.

Dental bonding is the best treatment option if you want a cheaper and less invasive option. It will also suit you if you’re interested in quick treatment. Unlike veneers, which require two dental appointments, your dentist will complete the dental bonding procedure in one office visit.

The downside of dental bonding is that it’s not as durable as porcelain veneers, as they last for an average of four to eight years.

Let Your Dentist Help You Decide

At Parthenia Family Dental, we understand that deciding between dental bonding and porcelain veneers can be challenging when trying to improve your smile.

That’s why we recommend you schedule an appointment with our qualified staff and Panorama City dentist. We will comprehensively examine your teeth before making any recommendations.
